Mid-point on a five-day indoor - outdoor shoot with 26 models, 9 crew, 7 kids, 6 locations, 5 families, 4 businesses, 2 weather days, & 1 dog, Mattthew asked me, “What’s more important? The process – or the picture?”
I answered, “Yes.”

These locations are often complex, busy and messy. I can make them look beautiful by creating order out of visual chaos.
I love showing workers’ skill and pride. They take care of their equipment the way I take care of my cameras. I can relate to that.

We understand anxiety around Picture Day.
You’re not alone. Many of the people shown here would admit to feeling a little nervous. Some about their appearance, others not knowing what to do. How to pose? What to do with these hands?
But as you can see, their portraits show them relaxed, comfortable, and confident. Just as yours will.

We thought it would be appropriate to show some of the wonderful seniors we have met over the last several years, living in retirement and LTC facilities. Some we photographed for a personal project and some for the rebrand of the Ontario Long Term Care Association.
Elders are one of my favourite subjects. Their years of experience give them a special look when they are in front of the camera. Not at all self-conscious, but rather proud and determined- showing off lives that continue to be well-lived.
